Saga Boy Mojitos
Free up yourself!
Let your hair down forget about work for two days.
It's okay the boss won't mind.
If you have the good fortune to live in a country that places high value on the festival known as Carnival then you no doubt already know that this is the last hurrah before the austere and solemn occasion of Lenten prayer and fasting.
The debauchery though questionable is entirely legal.
Carnival is not complete without an inebriating drink of some sort and this one makes use of one of my favourite Angostura cocktails. You'll need a local variety of tangerines called portugals but feel free to substitute with tangerine or mandarin juice sweetened to your taste.
Saga Boy Mojito
*Saga Boy is a Trinidadian term for a guy who is a playboy. He is very interested in his looks and dressing well and likes the ladies.
INGREDIENTS:
2 oz White Oak Rum
.5 oz Lime Juice
2 oz Portugal Juice
Mint Leaves (8-10)
Soda Water (splash)
2 dashes Angostura® orange bitters
METHOD: In a tall glass add white rum and lime juice then 8-10 fresh mint leaves. Using muddling stick gently bruise leaves then fill glass with cracked ice. Pour in the portugal juice, soda and Angostura orange bitters. Garnish with sprig of mint.

ReplyDeleteWell I know what I'm having for my pre-Lenten cocktail tonight!
ReplyDeleteBtw, your photos are so awesome Wizzy! I'm still getting the hang of food styling and photography. Maybe you could do a post with some tips for us newbies?
I was just thinking the same as Candi, that you're a really great food stylist. I don't drink alcohol but this looks so cool! :-)

This mojito looks amazing for sure, so nice!
ReplyDeleteI love the name of this drink! So is this the Saga boy's drink of choice or is this what he serves to woo the ladies with?
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a mojito fan, but when I saw these I really wanted one! Looks so refreshing, great shots.
ReplyDeleteGod I love mojitos. Thank god winter will be over soon as summer is truly the best time to enjoy them at their peak. Love your orange version. And thanks for teaching me the new term "saga boy" hehe.
ReplyDeleteHa ha - you can keep your saga boys (I think they're what are called 'lads' here in the UK, as in 'he's a bit of a lad') and pour me a drink! Can't wait until it's warm enough here to be mixing up summery drinks, then I'll give this a twirl!
ReplyDeleteClearly, you need to have some of this this weekend? (lol)
ReplyDeleteYum, I looove Mojitos and am a huge fan of tangerine juice, I have to try this! I've never heard of portugal tangerines and don't know if I can find it here, but I will try it with just the regular tangerine juice.
